Starlings and Sparrows
Starlings
Since being introduced starlings have adapted to urban areas. They gather in massive flocks and their aggressive temperament sees them drive out native birds by invading existing nest sites. They can overwhelm trees and buildings. They 'whitewash' areas with their faeces causing structural damage and spreading disease. They will eat seeds and damage crops. The best form of control is netting, although other methods may be used.
Sparrows
Sparrows cause a great deal of noise from their huge flocks. Their choice of nesting area can cause flooding and clog machinery, potentially causing fires. Their faeces are highly corrosive and spread many diseases. Companies incur great expense in clean-up and maintenance costs due to unresolved sparrow problems. The best forms of control are netting or electrical wire. They however, do not react to bird scare devices.
